User scenarios

Stories of personas that act out

Represented visually

You predict how certain type of users represented by your personas will interact with your website in order to complete a given goal.

A scenario is a narrative describing foreseeable interactions of types of users and the system.

Scenarios include information about goals, expectations, motivations, actions and reactions

What your future users will look for?

Even if your personas fail at the task, you now have a visual representation of your problem and you can go back and solve it. Scenarios should outline who, what, when, where, why and how of the usage

What did i learn

I learnt how to properly create and effectively use an user scenario, as well as how they are presented visually on an interactive and informative level.

Shopping List Application

Shopping List Application

ID: Apps Quick Brief 1

1. Think through the user scenario.

Who will be using your app?

The target demographic is busy moms with a family.

How will users use your app?

The night before shopping day, the mom will make a list through the app at home in her free time. She opens the app, chooses the grocery shop from the store list, in this case she chooses Woolworths first. It opens a category list for food products, firstly she opens the dairy list and then chooses the milk list. She scrolls through the milk list looking for low-fat milk. After she finds the low fat milk she clicks on the product and then chooses the option “save to list”.

She goes back to the menu, there is shopping list option, she chooses that and can view her shopping list items, divided into categories, the categories are sorted by product type and which grocery shop.

Where will they use it?

To be used at home, the night before shopping day and then used at the shops whilst looking at your made list.

Why will they use it?

The mom is too busy during the morning school routine to be writing a list, she also forgets to write the list before shopping or does not have enough time during the day due to her other priorities such as business work and housework.

By using this app the mom will have the tools to organise, categorise and manage and save her time when it comes to shopping time.

2. What does the app need to do? i. Make a list. ii. Prioritise the list based on your answers to the user scenario answers.

1. Choice of grocery shop

2. Categorise item function

3. Make a organised and easy to read grocery list

4. Search bar

5. User log in, different users, share list with family members

6. Option for other devices to add items to the list

7. Nearest shopping location and those shops daily specials

8. Aisle location in the shopping list

9. Settings (user sign in, product recalls).

3. Develop a text description for a user pathway (task) through your app. Use a Persona + scenario combination to do this

The user is a wife who works at home as well as keeps a neat and tidy house with good organisation. She also does the weekly shopping but can never remember a shopping list or occasionally forgets some items.

User inputs which grocery store they will be shopping at. Next the user begins inputing grocery items into a categorised by food list, that organises chosen food and is easy to read and access. On the day of shopping, the user can easily find each item in the category and mark it off as it is collected. The total price is automatically updated as items are added until list is complete and list is marked off as finished.

User Scenarios

User Scenarios

A student is going out to the shops with her friends. She pulls out her wallet when she’s ready to pay for the items but her wallet is messy and she can’t find the stores membership card. She then opens her organised wallet app on her phone, clicks on the shopping category and scrolls down the list to locate that shops membership card. She then pays for the items and is given a paper receipt, later that day she uses the same app, she holds her paper receipt, opens the app and she clicks on the plus icon and chooses “add receipt” to scan the receipt and store the digital receipt on the app.
